Admin Guidelines:

How the rules are interpreted.  Developed by agreement within the admin team.

  1. Guidelines: Be Nice
    1. There will be zero-tolerance of any allusion to a threat of violence - sanctions will always be applied.
    2. Harassment and bullying have no place in Leytonstone Life. Posts which admins judge to be harassing or bullying will be removed, and appropriate sanctions will be applied.
    3. Posts and comments judged by admins to have been posted with the intent of provoking offence, alarm, distress or annoyance, or to spread potentially harmful misinformation, will be removed, and appropriate sanctions will be applied.
    4. Posts or comments which infringe on a member's privacy beyond what is readily accessible, or which appear intended to cause distress, will be removed at the discretion of admins.
    5. It's only banter if everyone can reasonably be expected to share the joke.
    6. Sweeping derogatory generalisations which may reasonably be seen as likely to cause offence will be removed, and persistent offenders may be excluded.
    7. Tackle the issues; never the people.
    8. Equality:  Includes the freedom to hold and to express (using appropriate sensitivity) views with which others may disagree.
    9. Tolerance:  Includes an acknowledgement of the right of others to hold and express views with which you disagree.
    10. Goodwill:  Includes seeking to reconcile differences instead of amplifying them.
  2. Guidelines: No Campaigning
    1. Adverts are not allowed, other than (if local) a single Notice of:
      1. A bona-fide event.
      2. The beginning of an instructional course term (based on four notional terms per year).
      3. An accommodation vacancy (other than from agencies or commercial landlords).
      4. An employment vacancy (other than from agencies or network-marketing organisers).
      5. An individual's availability for a full-time or part-time job (but not more general offers to provide services).
    2. Customer recommendations and (reasoned) reviews of businesses (from bona-fide customers without a connection to the business) are encouraged.
    3. Traders are allowed to reply with their offer to directly relevant enquiries.
    4. New requests for membership from profiles assessed as “tradingprofiles will not be accepted.
    5. Membership is only available to profiles in the names of individuals.
    6. Posts which contain taunts or slogans, or which are predominantly about political rivalries, politicians or parties are not allowed.
    7. Once an election has been called, a representative from any party with a local (Leytonstone, Leyton) candidate may create one post with a link to that party's manifesto. Disparagement of rival politicians or parties is not allowed.
  3. Guidelines: Fair Treatment
    1. A member who can reasonably be assumed to reject the rules of the group, or the prerogative of admins to apply them, is eligible for exclusion by consensus of admins.
    2. Where an intervention in a thread becomes necessary this should be dealt with, where possible, by admins who have not already participated as members in the thread.
    3. Any post may be deleted where admins agree this is necessary for the safeguarding of a vulnerable person.
    4. Membership requests will be assessed on the basis of responses to the questions automatically sent; those not responding fully will be declined, silently, after a reasonable interval but will be free to submit a further request.
    5. Admins may, at their discretion, remove content shared to the group whose accessibility appears restricted.
    6. Videos (including a 'watch party') posted without a covering explanation of what they are about and why they are posted in the group may be deleted at the discretion of the Admin Team.
    7. All rules apply equally to everyone - including Admins.
    8. We're probably only achieving true neutrality when we're being accused of bias equally by opposing sides.
    9. Exclusion is normally a last resort.
